About Rotary

Who we are

What is Rotary?

The Rotary Club of Northlakes Toukley is a small, but mighty club and quite an informal group compared to some other Rotary clubs. We are a fun, dynamic and inclusive group of like-minded persons who do some amazing work in the community at a local, national and international level.

In terms of our demographic, we have quite a range of ages, some ‘less experienced’ young professional members, as well as several ‘more experienced’ Rotarians who have a wealth of knowledge and who are great mentors to those who are new to Rotary.

Also, as a team member you get to voice your opinion on who you think needs our support in our community.

Meetings:

We meet the first and third Wednesday of the month. Due to the fluid state of COVID we meet at either the Halekulani Bowling Club, or a restaurant of choice or via Zoom.
Club meetings are either a formal meeting with an inspiring guest speaker or a social event. This occasionally includes a vocational field trip to visit a local community organisation such as SES, Ambulance or Fire Station. Generally, you purchase our own meal and give a $5 meeting fee.

Rotary International

What is Rotary?

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbours, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

Solving real problems takes real commitment and vision. For more than 110 years, Rotary’s people of action have used their passion, energy, and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects. From literacy and peace to water and health, we are always working to better our world, and we stay committed to the end.

Our mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.

Rotarians have a simple motto: Service Above Self

Our Four-Way Test

Our Four-Way test is a simple ethical framework to help us in our lives every day. Feel welcome to use it yourself - it's pretty simple:

Is it the TRUTH?

Is it FAIR to all concerned?

Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

End Polio

Polio eradication is Rotary’s top philanthropic priority. It was Rotary who initiated the quest for ending polio around the world, we started in 1989 when there were 350,000 people annually contracting polio, and in 2018 there have been only 10 cases so far (as at 8 June 2018).

In 1988, when Rotary began working with its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, there were more than 350,000 polio cases in over 125 countries. Since then, more than 2.5 billion children have been immunized against polio, and the incidence of polio has decreased 99.9 percent.
